Most Miracles Are Underfoot

A Sentence Born Over Coffee

Every once in a while, someone will give a nugget of wisdom that can change our worldview. A dear friend said to me recently, "If you want to know whether a woman loves you without condition, give her a place in your heart that she rules without question. Only then will you see how much she loves you."

I am deep in the third part of I'Eternal this week and nearly the conclusion of the first draft of the book. My friend's wisdom stayed with me most of that day. By nightfall, it took root in one of the characters in the book. Now it lives between the pages of my new novel. A sentence born over coffee had walked straight into the pages and became alive as a character. This is how the art gets made. People believe the artist sits alone and spins whole worlds out of nothing. The truth is more real and better than the myth.

Writers and artists are accumulators, we gather little gems and save them for the right moment. Life throws us truth when we aren't looking, in a kitchen, on a pier, in the middle of a sentence about the weather. The artist keeps his heart and creativity open and catches these treasures and gives them new life. The man who said these words will never read my book and find his words living inside a character. He gave me his wisdom without knowing he had given it. That is the quiet engine under all of it. Half of what ends up in the work was handed to you by someone who believed they were only making conversation.

You have your own version of this. A friend or a stranger at the counter set a sentence in front of you once, and you never put it down. Every artist mines the same areas for inspiration. The painter carries a color he saw on a face in traffic. The actor keeps a gesture stolen from his father and saves it for the stage. The songwriter takes a single word from a graveside and builds a chorus around it years later. We collect what the day leaves behind. In some offhand remark this week, half asleep in the ordinary, you will drop a word into someone that surfaces later in something they make. The best of what we give each other, we give without knowing. Listen closer to the people who love you. They are telling you everything.

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead.

Silent Inspiration

On the ranch the big view is always waiting, the green pasture running out to the oaks and the blue hills stacked behind them under a sky with nothing in it but light. That is the picture a person comes for, the one worth stopping the truck for, and it earns the stopping. But down at the bottom of the frame, close to the ground where almost nobody looks, a thin stalk of pale blue flowers has come up through the gravel and the weeds, small and easy to miss and lovelier than the whole valley behind it.

The hills do not need me. They were grand before I got here and they will be grand after. These little blue blooms are different. They opened this morning in a place no one planted them, they will be gone in a few days, and if I had kept my eyes on the hills I would have walked right past them without ever knowing they were there. The land teaches the same lesson every time I slow down enough to hear it. The grand thing will always announce itself. The small thing waits quietly at your feet, asking only that you look down, and it turns out the looking down is where most of the living is.

I'Eternal

A signal crosses centuries to find one man.

Four lifetimes. Four cities. One soul, remembering its way home to itself.

My novel is coming soon. I wanted you to be among the first to know. As my gift, enjoy the first chapter for free.

Tell Your Own Story

History belongs to the ones who tell it best.

Everyone carries a story worth telling. Most people never learn how. In my master course I teach you the four questions every great story turns on. Who stands at the center of it. What sets the whole thing moving. Where it all takes place. Why any of it matters to a stranger. Learn these four and the stage is yours, whether you are writing a speech, filming a vlog at your kitchen table, or building something the world has not seen yet. The voice is already yours. Let me show you how to use it.

David Daniel Ahearn

I’ve spent most of my life onstage, telling stories for laughs and feeling a room shift in real time. For twenty five years I hosted an improvisational show called Four Day Weekend, and that stage felt like home. In 2020 the world shifted, and so did I. The questions of the world began to matter more to me than comedy, and I turned toward writing about life's greater mysteries, finishing We’ll Always Have Paris and later Quietude, which became a quiet turning point in my life. Exploring The 12 Universal Laws widened the lens even more. Now the island reflections and everyday synchronicities I share carry one intention, which is to help you awaken to your highest potential. I am not here to convince or impress you. I simply hope to brighten your day, invite you to question what you have been told, and remind you of what you already know. Each morning I return to the same ground. I am awake. I am aware. I am able. I remember. Everything I share grows from there.
